Resurfacing improvements require a section of the A7 north of Galashiels to close for seven working days as of Monday, 28th September. The resurfacing works will take place within the 40mph limit until Tuesday 6 October, between 9am and 5pm. The road will be fully open on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October. Preparatory works will take place at the same section from Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 September, with traffic lights in operation. Electronic signage is already in place to advise road users of the works, but access for walkers and cyclists will be maintained throughout.
Northbound traffic should use the A68 to the B6458 Tynehead Road, which then joins at the A7 at the north side of Heriot, with the same diversion in the opposite direction. Drivers are advised to take extra care on all routes and in particular to avoid using the B6362 Stow to Lauder Road for the benefit of local residents.
School transport will be allowed through the works each day, while X95 service buses will divert via a local diversion onto the B710 at Clovenfords/Bowland. The bus stops on the A7 between Bridge Place in Galashiels and Bowland will be out of operation during the closure, with signage being arranged to advise bus users.
