Anyone wondering why Newcastleton Medical Practice husband and wife duo Howard and Libby Kennedy seem to have bigger smiles on their faces these days need look no further than the recent Scottish Health Awards and Scottish Pharmacy Awards.
Every year, the Scottish Health Awards recognise and reward dedicated NHS staff, support workers, volunteers and specialist teams who go the extra mile to provide outstanding patient care.
Howard, a GP at the Practice, was presented with the Doctor Award at last week’s event, held at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh.
The judges were particularly impressed by the round the clock care that Howard provides for his patients, with the impact and value of the care being described as “unmeasurable.”
Libby, a Pharmacist at the Practice was rewarded with the Respiratory Project of the Year Award, for her “impeccable” care and compassion in addition to the high quality person centred pharmaceutical care she provides.
The Scottish Pharmacy Awards, held at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow, cover every aspect of the work prevalent in Scottish pharmacy today. The glittering social event witnessed the cream of Scotland’s pharmacy sector gather to celebrate the achievements of their community and hospital colleagues.
Cliff Sharp, Medical Director at NHS Borders said: “Every year the Scottish Health Awards and the Scottish Pharmacy Awards reflect and celebrate the great work and innovation that goes on throughout Scotland. To be recognised at these national awards is a real achievement, and reflects the hard work and dedication that Howard and Libby put in to their roles every day, to provide excellent patient care. Success should be celebrated, and I am incredibly proud of our winners and would like to extend my congratulations to them both.”
