Work to upgrade the gas network in the Burnfoot Road area of Hawick is to start next week.

The work involves replacing old metal gas mains and service pipes with new plastic pipes, ensuring a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local community for many years to come.

Work has been planned in close consultation with the local authorities to reduce disruption as much as possible. The project will begin on Tuesday 4 May and will be carried out in phases, taking approximately 37 weeks to complete.

The first phase of the project will begin in Hillend Drive and over a 12 week period the road will be closed at its junctions with Charles Street, Galalaw Road and Fraser Avenue at separate times to allow engineers to work safely.

Throughout the project, it will be necessary to implement road closures and use temporary traffic lights to ensure everyone remains safe while work is carried out.
