As we approach the further easing of COVID-19 restrictions Dr Keith Allan, Associate Director of Public Health, is urging Borderers to use a rapid Lateral Flow Device (LFD) regularly.
1 in 3 people with COVID show no symptoms (are asymptomatic) but can still spread the virus. Rapid LFD COVID-19 tests help to identify people who have the virus but are not showing symptoms. This enables those people to self-isolate immediately and reduces the risk of further spreading it to others.
Dr Allan said: “If you have been vaccinated it is useful to take regular rapid LFD COVID-19 tests as you are more likely to show no symptoms should you catch it and the infection will be harder to identify without testing.”
Kits can be ordered online here. You can also get rapid tests from your local pharmacy by calling 119, or by visiting a community testing site. Everyone in Scotland can get LFD test kits and are being encouraged to be tested twice weekly.
The community testing programme in the Borders is being offered again at Hawick fire station on July 22nd and 23rd.
