A man has been jailed following two incidents of assault and robbery in Hawick earlier this year.

Martin Charlotte

At Selkirk Sherriff Court on Monday, 21 October, Martin Charlotte (37) plead guilty and was sentenced to 42 months for the incidents which happened on Saturday, 4 May, and Wednesday, 29 May, 2019.

The first incident happened in the Meadows area of Hawick when a taxi driver was robbed. The second involved a 71-year-old woman who was pushed to the ground and had her handbag stolen within a communal stairwell on High Street, Hawick. Both incidents resulted in minor injury.

Speaking following the sentencing, Detective Constable Andrew Hope, of the Galashiels CID said: “This is a positive result for local policing, these incidents were terrifying for those involved and we are thankful neither suffered serious injury. charlotte’s sentence today sends a clear message to those acting in such a manner that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated in the Scottish Borders.”
