LOCAL MUSICIAN BRINGS SAXOPHONE SOUNDS TO THE BORDERS

A familiar love of music has led Andy Schofield to develop a new chapter as a saxophonist and entertainer, offering live music for weddings, parties, corporate events, festivals and fundraisers.

Andy, who now lives in Appletreehall near Hawick, has enjoyed a varied career and has lived in Aberdeen, Swindon, Portugal and Perthshire. His working life included time offshore as a field engineer, before moving to southwest England and later managing a field office in Portugal. He eventually opened a similar office in Scotland.

He and his family moved to ‘Appletreehall House’ to downsize, and be closer to their two daughters and enjoy a quieter way of life. Both daughters work in the NHS in the northeast of England.

However, it is music that has become an increasingly important part of Andy’s life. His musical journey began at the age of 11 when he learned classical clarinet. In his early twenties he discovered improvisation and, in his own words, moved to the “dark side” by taking up the saxophone.

Today, Andy’s repertoire covers a wide range of musical styles, from classical and blues to jazz, pop and rock. But there is one particular genre that holds a special place for him, playing the blues.
