Wilton Lodge Park in Hawick has been voted as one of the top ten green spaces in the whole of the UK following a national public vote.
The park was named by Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award team as one of its “People’s Choice” parks after thousands of park users across the country voted for their favourite sites.
The special recognition comes after the site achieved the prestigious Green Flag Award quality mark, which recognises and accredits high quality and well managed green spaces, earlier this year. 2025 marked the seventh consecutive year that the park has been recognised with a Green Flag award, which is reserved for the very best examples of parks and greenspaces across the country – demonstrating its consistently high standards of maintenance and cleanliness. The site boasts a museum, cafe, stunning walled garden, destination play park, pump track and beautiful riverside routes that are accessible for walking and wheeled sports.
This year it was specifically commended for the diverse outdoor recreational opportunities available and for its engagement with a wide range of community groups. It was also noted for its commitment to promoting sustainable operations where possible.
The ten People’s Choice winners are among a record breaking 2,250 parks and green spaces that achieved the Green Flag Award this year, with successful submissions from local authorities and other land managers across the country for a range of sites, from world-famous city parks to small, local green spaces.
Councillor John Greenwell, Executive Member for Roads & Public Space Development, said: “For Wilton Lodge Park to be named as one of the top ten Green Flag parks in the entire UK as voted for by the public, beating off competition from over 2,000 parks nationwide, is incredibly exciting news.”
