As part of Scottish Borders Council’s ongoing programme of tree safety inspections, surveys of trees on Council-owned and managed land within the Teviot and Liddesdale area have recently been completed.

Following visual tree safety inspections by specialist contractors, recommendations were made for a range of management works, including pruning, maintenance and, where necessary, tree removal.

Contractors will undertake the recommended works from 16 November at several locations, including Wilton Lodge Park, Volunteer Park and Happy Valley, Burnfoot.

During the works, residents and visitors may encounter temporary path closures, safety signage and restricted access in some areas. We ask members of the public to follow any instructions provided by contractors to help ensure the works are carried out safely.

Tree removal is always considered a last resort. Many of the trees identified for removal are in the advanced stages of ash dieback. Where tree removals are required, replacement trees have been ordered and will be planted over the coming months as part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing tree cover across the area.
