2026 will be Stuart’s 50th year in broadcasting having started at BBC Radio Oxford as a sports reporter when he was 15, following a successful High Jump career in which he won back-to-back Scottish Under 15 High Jump titles and a British National League record, clearing 1.97m (just under 6’6″ for the non metric among you!)
His bedroom was turned into a radio studio at the age of 8 and he was always fascinated with broadcasting, doing his own programmes to himself and editing sports shows! Although born in Edinburgh his family moved to Oxfordshire in the late 1960s and while he was in England he was offered the country music show at the age of 18 and relief presenter of many other shows before getting his own Saturday afternoon programme.
In 1989 he was offered the opportunity to leave the BBC to take up a role at the new commercial station, Fox FM, doing the overnight show, presenting the sports programme and also the country music show. He was there for a number of years then headed back to Scotland in 1999 to start his own internet radio station covering Scottish Rugby and presenting shows for Radio Borders as well as freelancing for Radio Caroline, CMR Nashville Radio and writing for The Scotsman, Daily Record and newspapers in the Borders. He also went to the World Cup in 2011 in New Zealand to cover the event for TalkSPORT. He was Newcastle Falcons reporter for Sky Sports TV for a number of years and also covers Scottish international matches for Sky Sports News as well as TalkSPORT.
He launched Borders Rugby TV in 2007 and later Rugby Radio, but loves music presenting (particularly the 1970s show on TD9 Radio) and the Hotdisc country music chart show which can be heard all over the world on radio stations.
